My Tokyo Tokyo Wagyu Cubes Experience

Monday, August 27, 2018

Who knew that it'd be this easy to enjoy wagyu?

Wagyu usually is associated with exclusivity and rarity, but its addicting flavor really makes us crave for it 24/7. It's not always easy to make a trip to stores that specialize in wagyu given the extreme level of traffic these days. Plus, there are too many wagyu cubes places that no one knows where to get good ones anymore. Thankfully, Tokyo Tokyo now has their Wagyu Cubes Bento, so it's easy to get our wagyu fix anytime, anywhere (given that they have 60+ branches!).

Their bento is very affordable at Php200 each, inclusive of this much rice, stir fried vegetables, and 3 skewers of wagyu cubes. I ended up needing just one skewer as the wagyu cubes are so tasty, so if you add rice on your own at home, you can feed up to 3 people with one bento box. In the stores, they offer unli rice, so you're bound to have quiiiite a loooot of rice if you have this in store.

Their wagyu cubes are coated in a light unagi sauce, which needs to be light so as not to overpower the taste of the beef. The beef is tasty, umami rich, and creamy. They're soft to the bite, and definitely very braces friendly (take it from me!). To be realistic, grade A5 Japanese wagyu is more melt in your mouth, but given the price point and ease of access, this is already excellent in my standards.

I'm also smitten with their new Black Garlic ramen! I also would like to take the time to appreciate their nifty takeaway packaging. They also have this separator bowl for the noodles and toppings, so that they don't become prematurely soggy in the soup.

This ramen is tasty with the black garlic oil, and the egg and chashu add in a creamy and buttery profile. The tonkotsu broth is thankfully mild, because sometimes I find some places to serve broth that's way too overpowering. The mild broth together with the powerful black garlic oil makes for a balanced flavor profile.

And for cheap thrills, their California Maki is only Php80 for 4 pieces!

Indeed, lotsa new stuff at Tokyo Tokyo!
